The Spring Revolution:
Burma’s Third Coup In History
February 1, 2025
It has been four years since Burma’s military (known as the Sit Tat) seized power, which has seen escalating human rights violations across the country. Since it was founded in March 2000, AAPP has worked on the documentation of arbitrary detention and its overarching themes such as prison conditions, the treatment of political prisoners, and the use of oppressive laws by successive military regimes.
AAPP looks at what has happened in the past four years and documents cases of human rights violations perpetrated by the Sit Tat.
Sit Tat regards anyone who is against them as an enemy of the state, and they have officially declared that those who are against them will be destroyed or eliminated. To do this, they use terror.
As a result the violence has intensified, with brutal crackdowns occurring daily with innocent civilians killed unjustly.
Within 4 years of the coup, at least 6,239 civilians and pro-democracy activists have been murdered.
AAPP stands as a resilient and credible source of information, diligently documenting the challenges faced by political prisoners, addressing the underlying systemic issues, and working tirelessly towards viable solutions.
Through our efforts, we strive to continue raising domestic and international awareness about the human rights abuses that have occurred, particularly in the aftermath of the 2021 military coup in Burma.
