Causes of death

The Sit Tat has been committing widespread violence against civilians nationwide with impunity. Most deaths have resulted from gunfire targeting unarmed civilians, primarily during the initial peaceful protests, with nearly a quarter of the shots deliberately aimed at their heads. Another significant cause of casualties is the indiscriminate use of artillery and airstrikes on residential communities.

Almost a third of the casualties occurred while in detention. Detained individuals by the Sit Tat may face acts of torture immediately following arrest, sometimes carried out in the presence of family members. Other examples of war crimes committed against detainees include being shot, medical negligence, gender-based violence, and inhumane treatment, such as setting bodies on fire.
